The wind has been used for thousands of years as a source of energy. Sailors capture it in the sails of their ships, the Netherlands are famous for the use of windmills and UK is meeting its electricity needs from wind and other renewable sources.
Wind energy is a free, renewable resource, so no matter how much is used today, there will still be the same supply in the future. Wind energy is also a source of clean, non-polluting, electricity. Unlike conventional power plants, wind plants emit no air pollutants or greenhouse gases.
The newly formed MEG Renewables will operate small-to-medium-scale wind turbine sites, of between one and three turbines, which will have a combined capacity of between 500 kilowatts and 5 megawatts.
The company has estimated it will need to develop as much as 20 megawatts of capacity to service its network of 300 nationwide stores.
